Missionary Service

Commissioned International is a non-profit that exists under the Lordship of Jesus Christ to EVANGELIZE the lost, DISCIPLE the saved, and MINISTER to the needs of the poor.

PATHWAYS
Career Missionary

The commitment of a career missionary is open-ended. Career missionaries work
interdependently with other missionaries and follow God's lead in the area of service they feel called to do. Formal language study is a requirement, so the missionary can have an effective ministry in the country they serve. Career missionaries serve in and/or direct our ongoing ministries, develop new ministries, and may also work with teams.

Sojourner Missionary

Sojourner missionaries are short-term missionaries who serve directly with a career missionary or a Commissioned International ministry. Sojourner missionaries make a one-year commitment to serve on the mission field and have the option to recommit for an additional year. While there are no language learning requirements for sojourner missionaries, basic language proficiency is recommended, so sojourners can be most effective in the area where God has called them to serve.

Volunteers

Volunteers may serve under the direction of a full-time Commissioned International missionary from two weeks to one year. Service should be associated with an existing Commissioned International ministry.

The Foundation

Do you feel that God is placing a special calling on your life to serve for an extended time in
another country? We have been helping missionaries fulfill their calling to long-term and
short-term missions since 1992. Prayer is indispensable in the life of a missionary. Pray for
affirmation and confirmation of a clear calling from God to the mission field. Oftentimes, this
clear calling is what will sustain you through the difficult times on the mission field.

Phase 1: Application (1-2 months)

This process begins with an email to [email protected] stating your desire to serve. Upon receiving your email, we will begin a dialogue with you about how you feel God is directing your life to the mission field. Based on those conversations, you may begin the application process.

Phase 2: Interviews & Board Approval (2-4 months)

Your completed application will be reviewed by our administrative staff. If the application is approved, the interviews will begin. Career and sojourner missionaries will interview with administrative staff and directors of the ministries where they wish to serve as well as by our Board of Trustees Personnel Committee. This interview will be done in person if possible. The Personnel Committee will then present career and sojourner missionaries to the Board at the closest scheduled Board meeting.

Phase 3: Orientation & Fundraising (6-12 months)

Board-approved career and sojourner missionaries will be required to attend a two-day orientation meeting with our administrative staff to begin their preparation for fundraising and subsequent departure for the mission field. All missionaries and volunteers are responsible for raising funds for their personal and ministry expenses that they will encounter on the foreign field. This can be one of the more lengthy and rewarding portions of the process to becoming a missionary.

Phase 4: Commissioning & Pre-field Training (1 month)

Your sending church will host a commissioning service for you to bless and affirm your call to go. Missionaries will then attend the Center for Intercultural Training where you will receive strategic missionary training on how to transition to new cultures, overcome the unique challenges of living overseas, and help prepare hearts for the Gospel.

Phase 5: Field of Service

When fundraising is complete, the new missionary or volunteer will be permitted to depart for their field of service to begin the adventure of a lifetime. Career missionaries will immediately begin required language classes upon arrival.
