On the Ground at GSCH

This spring at Good Shepherd’s Children’s Home in Honduras has been a steady and meaningful season. As teams have come and gone, the campus has remained active, with children in their routines, volunteers serving, and relationships continuing to grow. It’s been a season marked less by big moments and more by consistent, everyday impact.

In recent weeks, we’ve hosted teams from Grace Community Church, Celebration Church, and Hopewell Church. Each group came ready to serve and stepped into both the practical and relational work of the ministry. Projects included preparing the ground for upcoming construction, completing concrete work, painting, and serving within the school. Teams also partnered with the local community through shared meals and time together. Just as important as the work itself was the time spent with the children. These relationships matter, reinforcing a sense of stability, value, and care that continues long after the teams return home.

Alongside the work of these teams, daily life at the home continues to grow in meaningful ways. This spring brought the start of a new sewing program for the children. It’s a simple addition, but an important one, helping them develop practical skills while also building confidence and a sense of accomplishment. It’s one more step in preparing them not only for today, but for what comes next.

After completing their exams, the children entered their Semana Santa break, and the pace on campus shifted. There has been more time for rest, play, and simply being together. The reopening of the pool has been a highlight, giving the children space to enjoy this season in a relaxed and joyful way. These moments are just as important as the structured ones, contributing to a healthy and stable environment.

Looking ahead, we are preparing for an important transition. At the end of May, Nick and Melanie Philbrick, along with their family, will move on-site to serve at the children’s home. Their presence will add consistency to the ministry’s daily rhythms and deepen the relational investment in the children. We are grateful for their willingness to step into this role and ask that you keep them in prayer as they make this transition.

As summer approaches, we are also preparing to welcome several teams. This season is always significant not only for the work that gets done, but for the encouragement and growth that come from people serving together.
