How God Moved at Youth Camp in Honduras

At Youth Camp a few weeks ago, we witnessed something deeply powerful — a glimpse into the heart of youth ministry in Honduras that continues to ripple outward.
Scott Newton led a portion of our leader training that week. One evening, he sat out on the porch with a group of local youth leaders, simply asking them to share their stories — why they felt called to work with young people.
Their answers were raw and moving. They talked about the realities Honduran youth face: addiction, gang involvement, poverty, injustice, and tragic loss. Yet despite the weight of those challenges, every leader carried a fierce passion — to reach young people with the gospel before it’s too late.
Scott then shared a story from back home. He told them about a girl who came from a broken home and was battling addiction. He and his wife poured into her life — visiting her, inviting her to youth events, and eventually welcoming her into their home when she was at her lowest. She lived with them for an entire summer. Scott described how, during that time, she experienced real love for the first time — even through something as simple as opening a pantry, grabbing food, and knowing she was welcome.
As he shared, many of the Honduran leaders were in tears. His story resonated with them deeply. That same heartbeat — of inviting youth not just into programs but into their lives — is what they long to embody in their own communities. Their dream is to raise up leaders who will walk alongside hurting teens, even to the point of opening their homes.
That week, we also saw amazing fruit from Pastor Wilson’s group. He’s from a town about 20 minutes from the Bible Institute, and he brought five young people to camp. Several of them made decisions for Christ during the week!
After camp, Scott’s team of college students joined a local outreach in the nearby town of Moroceli. They went door to door on Sunday afternoon, sharing the gospel. One visit was especially memorable. They met a 19-year-old whose mother was a believer, but he had always kept his distance from faith. During their visit, one of the college students — about the same age — shared his testimony. Right there in his home, the young man gave his life to Christ.
Between camp and the outreach, Pastor Wilson saw seven young people come to faith that week. On Saturday, he invited them to a youth gathering and began discipleship. That Sunday, they were celebrated publicly at church — new believers, welcomed into the family of God.
This is why we do what we do.
God is moving through leaders, students, and entire communities — across generations and across borders. Thank you for being part of this mission. Please continue to pray for the youth leaders of Honduras, for the churches following up with new believers, and for the seeds planted through camp that are still growing.
